The Staff Catalyst Fund Empowers Under-resourced Leaders

Servant Partners staff and local leaders often experience a moment when God called them to minister in their community. God invites them to partner with him in the work He is already doing in urban marginalized areas. Though these leaders desire to joyfully step into that call, it can be difficult to do so because of financial limitations.

Janira Bremner is a Caribbean immigrant who settled in Philadelphia. She had been living in the area for seven years when she sensed “God’s invitation to make my home with Him here [in North Philadelphia].” She joined the Servant Partners Philadelphia team in 2021 and credits the Catalyst Fund as an important factor in providing the foundational support for her work. Janira recalls, “the fund helped me meet living expenses, so I could invest critical time towards building a financial support network.” The Catalyst Fund is a launching pad for those entering the ministry without extended financial networks. Once established, Janira was able to lean into the vision God had placed in her heart for the community; creating a space for improvisational dance that has become an essential part of her neighborhood and a means for God’s joyous healing and transformation for youth and elders.

As God’s people, regardless of our physical or social location, we are called to participate as members of one body. The Catalyst Fund invites the entire body of believers into the commitments made by Servant Partners staff to urban ministry. Janira's passion for seeing people on the margins experience healing through movement invigorates others to consider committing to this kind of vision. Resources like the Catalyst Fund empower more people to make the same commitments to their communities, multiplying the number of staff who can join Servant Partners teams.

Once on the field, the fund continued to supplement my income, as I joined in God’s improvisational dance of healing and transformation in my community. It allowed me to patiently lean into the hope to see a community dance space shaped and led by God’s power and love. God has responded to this hope. - Janira Bremner

Consider joining us by giving to the Catalyst Fund and being a source of joy for those looking to respond to God’s invitation to urban ministry.
